Is it something I said?

If you mention the word Swamp Cooler in Central New York they will all look at you as if you have a third eye. They assumed I was talking about dehumidifier since almost every basement in the area has one and I am just a dumb girl from California. They are almost polar opposites.

Evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) - An air-cooling unit that turns air into moist, cool air by saturating the air with water vapor. It does not cool air by use of a refrigeration unit.

Dehumidifier -A device used to remove water vapor from the air, thereby lowering the humidity of the air.
