Welcome to the Twighlight Zone

No, I am not talking about the silly vampire book series, I am talking about my morning.

I had to drive into the city to walk a friends dogs today. I get 10 minutes into my trip and realize I left my cell phone at home. I don't know how I drove without a cell phone before, but now if I don't have my phone while I am on the road, I panic. All the things that could go wrong race through my head. I envision everything from car accidents, flat tires, to alien abduction.

I arrive at my friends house in the middle of a not so friendly neighborhood to find one of her dogs at the door and he is not happy to see me. This normally meek mannered dog is growling and snapping at me through the glass. I wondered if he did not recognize me with my new glasses on. I took the glasses off and it didn't help much. I stood at the door talking sweetly to him until he backed down. I get in the house, leash him up and we head out the front door. When we turn to head inside, the front door is locked. Just beyond the front door is my purse and the keys. Even if I had my cell phone, there would be no one to call to help me out of this situation.

I walk around the house looking for a way in, but figure in this neighborhood you have to make sure everything is locked up and secure. I look for a hidden key, but come up empty handed. I take the screen off the front window in hopes of getting the window to budge. I am able to get the window open about a foot and a half and push the furniture out of the way. I contemplated getting one of the kids in the neighborhood to go in for me, but decided against it. The people on the street are all staring at me. I decide to just take the plunge. I tie the dog to the porch and jump through the window. I don't know if I am more surprised that I fit through the window or the fact that I managed to do it without hurting myself. The dogs did their business and I was out of there.

On my way home, a group of people on motorcycles surround me. I have no idea where they even came from. I was sitting at a red light and a bunch of Harley riders ride past me and through the red light. There must have been 70+ bikes swerving around my truck, barely missing my front bumper on both sides of the street. At the next intersection, the bikes decide they don't want to wait for that light either. A car starts to turn left in front of us and it is pushed into oncoming traffic by the bikes. A big guy jumps out of the car and walks up to the bikes that have blocked him from making his turn. At this point I am really wishing I had my cell phone. This guy was pretty big, but he had five bikers blocking him in and plenty more still coming down the street. Eventually the parade finishes and everyone goes on their way.

I am home now and Dave just asked if I wanted to run to Home Depot with him. At this point I think staying home just might be a good idea.
